Runners finishing the Blairadam Badass Trail Running race

Blairadam Badass 2019 – Trail Running Event

"Joint venture between TerraVenture Event Support and Scottish brand Active Root brings fresh energy to Fife Winter Trail Race"

A  new partnership with the increasingly popular Scottish sports drink brand Active Root took us to the local Blairadam Badass Trail Race last weekend. The event in its third year has a growing reputation for providing a great Winter Trail running experience in the enchanted Blairadam Forest, by Kelty, Fife.

KEEPING RUNNERS FUELED IN SUB ZERO TEMPERATURES

The local Kelty Community Centre made a superb venue and Lindsay had our sales stall ready to go in the registraton hall. Entrants took the opportunity to sample some Active Root whilst waiting to collect their timing chips and numbers.

RUNNERS BRAVE THE CHILL TO GET UNDERWAY

Runners then made their way to the event start about 1.5 miles down into the forest itself. It made for a good warm up and it was not long before organisers had them corralled and went through the great local banter of calling out the various running clubs and seeing who was best represented, encouraging a little rivalry before the starters whistle.

Unlike the crisp light snow conditions in 2017 there was a substantial amount of ice on the course and a few alterations had to be made. The new route would take the runners on a continual gradual climb for about 3.2 km before turning at the near summit and racing back down the 500ft of descent back to the finish at the 6.4km mark.

LEADERS SET FAST PACE DESPITE THE SLIPPERY CONDITIONS

Ben Kinninmonth was the first back and looking comfortable as he surprised the timing operators with his 24.44 time which was a minute clear of the rest of the field.  He was followed in by Wullie Haldane at 25:48 and Craig Chisolm at 26:08.

In the female race Julie Menzies laid down an impressive 26:44 taking a convincing win over Isla Cubitt and Lisa Aikman at 27.33 and 28.05 respectively. Infact there were 90 female runners and 84 male which is a great reflection of the local running community and for the sport of Trail Running in Scotland. Many thanks to the great event timing services of PB Timing.

Congratulations to all the competitors, if you didn’t get a chance to taste or if you would like to find out more about Active Root you can visit our ACTIVE ROOT brand information site here or if you need to re-supply, we have it available for home delivery from our online sales site TerraVenture.co.uk

SOME GINGER WITH YOUR MUFFIN…

Being used to multi day cycling events having athletes completing the event sub 25 minutes was a culture shock and no sooner had we handed out the last of the Active Root at the Finish we had to drop the gazebo and pack away the support stall to get back to the hall for prize-giving. I think we set a new PB ourselves!

Lindsay was already back down at the hall with the registration stall now providing some post race refreshments along side some rather fine Cupcakes from Hailey at the Cake Lab, who took pre-orders for customised cupcakes ready for runners when they got back! This is a sport we could live with!

Check out some of Hailey’s amazing work here.

After everyone had been suitable re-hydrated with Active Root and coffees by some of the Falkland Trail Runners prize giving was soon underway. All the worthy category winners and top three male and female overall received their awards. It didn’t take long for the hall to clear as everyone was wanting a hot shower to defrost!

Thank you very much to Brian the lead organiser for letting us come and support the event. We hope that you all enjoyed the samples and thank you to those of you who purchased some of our deals on the day!

See you all at another event soon!
